Vase from Stepped Series
Ettore Sottsass, 1990s

From the creative mind of Ettore Sottsass and the mastery of the ceramists at Manifattura Bitossi comes a series of furnishing accessories with irresistible appeal and timeless character. This is a vase from the “Stepped” series, made of hand-turned white clay and glazed in a two-tone matte gray and light green finish, produced in the 1990s by Bitossi and designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. The “Stepped” vase series was originally created by Il Sestante in 1966 and 1982.
In this version, the vase features a unique color combination that was never put into production; in fact, it is a color proof datable before 1991, the year in which the final collection was presented by Manifattura Bitossi in various color shades.
Sottsass reuses the traditional hand-turning process on white clay. The final product is a unique object, destined to leave a mark thanks to its contemporary design shapes linked to the oldest ceramic tradition of the Tuscan company that created it.
